About BacktestScore
What BacktestScore is
BacktestScore is an independent comparison site for backtesting software, built for retail quants and algo traders. We cover cloud platforms, Python libraries, charting SaaS, and desktop software, and we rank them using one published methodology: a reference strategy executed identically on every engine that can run it, seeded synthetic data with known ground-truth results, specs cited to vendor documentation, and prices verified against live vendor pricing pages with last-verified dates.
Why there are no faces here
You will not find author photos, a founder story, or a YouTube persona on this site. That is deliberate. In this niche, trust built on personality is exactly the problem: the space is full of confident reviewers who have never run the tools they rank, and "best of" lists whose real ranking factor is the affiliate payout. A more likable reviewer does not fix that. Work you can check does. Every benchmark result on this site comes from code in a public repository that you can clone and re-run. Prices carry the date they were verified. Every community-sentiment claim names its source. If the data is verifiable, the identity of the person who compiled it is irrelevant; if it is not verifiable, no byline should make you believe it.
What we do
- Execute the same reference strategy on every platform that can express it, and publish the code.
- Verify pricing, tiers, and limits against vendors' current pages rather than cached blog posts, and date-stamp them.
- Score platforms on a fixed, weighted rubric (Power, Data quality, Cost and value, Ease of use) with every judgment adjustment documented.
- Re-verify prices at least every 90 days and re-run benchmarks on major releases.
What we do not do
- Accept payment for rankings, scores, placement, or awards. Ever.
- Give investment advice, recommend strategies, or promise returns. We evaluate software; whether any strategy is worth trading is a different question this site does not answer.
- Invent numbers. When we cannot verify a fact, the review says so instead of guessing.
How the site is funded
BacktestScore earns commissions from some affiliate links, disclosed on every page where they appear. Scores are finalized before monetization is considered, and several of our highest cost-value scores go to free open-source tools that pay us nothing. Details are in our affiliate disclosure and editorial policy.
